Amata Corporation is accelerating the development of its flagship smart and eco-friendly industrial estate in northern Laos, aiming to transform the landlocked nation into a pivotal regional logistics and trade connector.

The progress of the Amata Smart and Eco City Namor, located in Oudomxay Province, was recently reviewed by senior Lao government officials led by Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, who doubles as the chairman of the Central Investment Promotion and Management Committee.

During the high-level talks, the government pledged full backing to expedite the project, streamline legal frameworks, and resolve hurdles to ensure it serves as a core driver for national economic development.

Varong Tangpraprutgul, Managing Director of Amata City Lao Co., said the project leverages the group’s extensive industrial park development experience from Thailand and Vietnam to establish a cutting-edge, sustainable hub across a 3,150-hectare site (approximately 20,000 rai).

Strategically positioned along the vital Laos-China Railway, the project aims to pivot Laos from being “landlocked” to becoming a dynamic “land-linked” logistics nexus for China, Thailand, Vietnam, and wider ASEAN markets.

“Construction on the first 900-hectare phase is already underway, and we are on track to welcome our first wave of investors by the end of this year,” Mr Varong said.

Designed to accommodate future-proof industries, including high-tech manufacturing, advanced logistics, agro-processing, and mixed-use commercial spaces, the estate seeks to integrate regional supply chains while maintaining strict environmental standards.

Recent milestones driving the project forward include Amata Group companies entering into key memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with strategic partners, reinforcing their collaborative initiatives.

These agreements encompass efforts such as conducting feasibility studies for an EV truck park, supporting the government’s target of reaching a 30 percent share of electric vehicle use by 2030, especially to facilitate the adoption of green logistics in cross-border trade.

Additionally, Amata is progressing with research into power grid infrastructure and establishing a reliable, stable, and eco-friendly electricity supply, which is essential for advancing industrial development, particularly in high-tech sectors.

All these initiatives reflect Amata’s commitment to cultivating robust industrial city ecosystems that promote sustainable growth and shared prosperity for stakeholders, local communities, the host nation, and the environment.

Oudomxay Provincial Governor Vongsavanh Chayavong reported that provincial authorities are coordinating closely with central agencies to clear operational bottlenecks and drive the next phases of construction forward, highlighting the development as a major catalyst for local employment and regional economic growth.

Once fully realized, the Namor industrial city is expected to draw substantial international investment, boosting Laos’s industrial competitiveness and reinforcing its position as a central economic corridor in the Mekong subregion.
